GITIS auditions in Kazakhstan

GITIS launches auditions in the Republic of Kazakhstan the upcoming spring as our school deepens ties with the country.

14 performances will be shown at the III International Student Festival of graduation performances “GITIS fest”

The festival will showcase 14 performances from various theater schools and theaters in cities such as Belgorod, Belgrade (Serbia), Vladivostok, Zarechny, Kazan, Moscow, New Delhi (India), St. Petersburg, Shanghai (China), and Yaroslavl. The festival aims to serve as a platform for dialogue and collaboration between major Russian and international theater schools.

First International Conference “Language and Dance, Language of Dance”

The Russian institute of theatre arts —GITIS, The Institute of Linguistics of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Centre for Socio-Cognitive Discourse Studies (SCoDis) at Moscow State Linguistic University will host the First International Conference “Language and Dance, Language of Dance”. It will take place on 13-15 of November 2024 in Moscow at The Institute of Linguistics of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Bolshoy Kislovsky Lane, 1/1) and Russian institute of theatre arts — GITIS (Maly Kislovsky Lane, 6).

The Conference is held under the Strategic Leadership Programme “Priority 2030”.

The conference will address the following issues:

  1. Dance and national identity.
  2. Gestures in language and dance (multimodality — gestures in communication and gestures in choreography).
  3. Words and dance: description of movements in different languages and choreography.
  4. Cognitive linguistics and the concept of dance in different dance styles and schools of dance.
  5. Artificial intelligence and robots in language and robotization in dancing, dancing machines in choreographic performances and dancers with osteosynthesis.
  6. Ethnicity in language and dance. Language and mentality, dance and mentality. *Dancers of different national identities with their views on how language influences dance and the choreography are welcome.
  7. Semiotic studies in language and choreography.
  8. A person in motion: everyday life, linguistic experiments, dance practices, choreographic works.
  9. Eye movements and other facial expressions in choreography and language (experiments with eye-tracker).
  10. “Theatrical” gestures in everyday life and gestures in acting (theatre, cinema). Pantomime in choreography.
  11. Dance, music, and sign languages.
The conference will be held in a mixed format (with the choice of in-person and online participation via Zoom).

Speaking time: plenary talks — 30 minutes (presentation + discussion), session talks — 15 minutes per presentation, with 5 minutes for discussion, round table talks — 10 minutes.
