GITIS teachers visited Lusaka, Zambia from the 28th to 31st of August. A series of master classes on acting and stage speech became part of the National Arts Festival (NAF), workshops were also hosted by the Russian house in Lusaka.
Training on acting was lead by the GITIS senior teacher Anna Trifonova, training on stage speech was lead by the senior teacher Larisa Kaydalova. Rector’s adviser on international projects Irina Zhukova held meetings with Zambian colleagues to provide information about admissions and education in GITIS and scholarships for Zambian students.
“This event is a historic milestone. Since the establishment of the diplomatic relations between countries 60 years ago, Soviet and Russian professionals in medicine, engineering, and education have often visited the country. But this is the first visit of performing arts specialists”, marks Rossotrudnichestvo, a cultural body promoting Russian culture and education abroad.
On the last day of training all participants gathered in the Russian House to receive a certificate of the course completion.
Sputnik Africa news agency quotes Alfred Mwaba, a GITIS third-year student, of the importance of the visit of the Russian delegation to his country.
“Their visit is a true testament to the growing international exchange of ideas and culture, and I am so personally grateful that my country will have a chance to benefit from the knowledge and experience of such prestigious delegates like I have in the past two years,” he said.
The National Arts Festival is a showcase of the best of Zambian arts as expressed and experienced by the country. It was first held in 2022 with support from the country’s Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts.
GITIS workshop in Zambia is part of the project “New Russian theatre” of the strategic academic leadership program Priority 2030.
