GITIS wraps up its first visit to Mauritius. GITIS professors conducted a series of master classes for students and professional actors.
In Mauritius, rector Grigory Zaslavsky discussed plans for international cooperation with the director of the Caudan Arts Centre Ashish Beesoondial, and the director of the National Conservatory Claudie Ricaud.
Mr. Beesoondial expressed his gratitude to GITIS for the engaging and valuable workshops, which allowed students, actors, and teachers to enhance their skills. Mrs. Ricaud noted that the island has many talented vocalists who would be eager to participate in international projects organized by GITIS. Colleagues also discussed future prospects for collaboration and the possibility of GITIS professors returning next year.
“The Russian Embassy is actively expanding its work in the field of international cultural exchange. For instance, our colleagues at the National Conservatory of Mauritius are expecting a visit of professors from the Moscow Conservatory in the near future. With the director of the Caudan Arts Centre — which is a completely new center equipped with high-quality instruments and excellent creative opportunities—we discussed making these GITIS master classes an annual event. They are ready to welcome us, which would be a great development. The Russian Embassy is also willing to facilitate these exchanges to ensure this happens on a regular basis,” said Grigory Zaslavsky following the meeting.
Master classes were led by Tatyana Tarasova, senior teacher from the Drama directing department, Ruslan Nasibulin, senior teacher of the Stage movement department, and Larisa Kaydalova, senior teacher of the Stage speech department.Additionally, colleagues from Mauritius emphasized that significant attention is currently being given to the development of theater on the country. In particular, there is a growing interest in classical ballet and music—areas that also require support, making GITIS’s involvement especially valuable.
