Theatre festival of the CIS countries “GITIS — masterclass”

November 16, 2020

From November 16 to 20 the Russian Institute of Theatre Arts — GITIS will hold the III “Theatre festival of the CIS countries “GITIS — masterclass” online.

This year, due to the coronavirus epidemic, theatre universities in the CIS countries were unable to come to Russia for the planned “Theatre festival of the CIS countries “GITIS — masterclass” in March 2020. We moved the festival to the fall, but in the fall the opportunity for students to come did not appear. However, we felt that it was wrong to cancel the annual meeting and decided to hold the festival online.

Five theatre schools — the Azerbaijan state University of culture and arts, the Kazakh national University of arts, the Academy of music, theater and fine arts of the Republic of Moldova, the State Institute of arts and culture of Uzbekistan and the Russian Institute of Theatre Arts — GITIS will show their student performances. At the end of the festival, students will discuss what they saw with University teachers.

Performances will be shown on the GITIS YouTube channel:

16th of November at 4 p.m. Anton Chekhov “The Proposal” (Russia)

17th of November at 4 p.m. Boris Akunin “The Seagull” (Republic of Moldova)

18th of November at 4 p.m. Carlo Gozzi “Turandot” (Republic of Uzbekistan)

19th of November at 5 p.m. William Shakespeare “Romeo and Juliet” (Republic of Azerbaijan)

As usual, masters and teachers of the University will hold lectures and masterclasses for participants of the festival, this time also online.

The goal of the festival was formulated by us together with the Interstate Fund for humanitarian cooperation of the CIS member States. We see it in strengthening cultural cooperation and establishing links between the CIS countries in the field of theatre education. In conditions of isolation, theatre schools participating in the festival try and discover new forms of remote communication, so as not to interrupt such an important exchange of experience for all of us.
